MAS Limpopo Inc started in 2019 by two Laparoscopic General Surgeons Dr Matsobane Nelson Latakgomo and Dr Martin Lahliwa Phakula with an aim to provide world class care for our patients utilizing minimal access surgery as a gold standard.

Minimal Access Surgery Limpopo is made up of physicians, researchers, and other health care professionals united in their mission to deliver the best surgical care possible. We have earned a reputation as the place where people with even the most serious and complex conditions can come for skilled, sensitive care. The reasons for this are simple: our division is directed by leaders in their field, our programs and services are some of the most comprehensive in the country, and we continuously produce excellent results for our patients.

Dr Latakgomo M. Nelson

Dr Matsobane Nelson Latakgomo is a specialist General Surgeon with special interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. He is a graduate of the Sefako Makgato University where he also attended his undergraduate studies. He graduated Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2004 from the then Medical University OF SOUTH AFRICA (MEDUNSA). Dr MN Latakgomo did his internship and community service at Lebowakgomo Hospital, Limpopo. Upon his completion of community service, he joined the department of General Surgery in Mankweng Hospital 2007-2008. He later joined the department of general surgery in Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital where he trained under the supervision of the late PROF MCM Modiba and Prof Zack Koto.
He is a Fellow of College of Surgeons (FCS) obtained from College of Medicine of South Africa. He was able to provide surgical care and consultations that resulted in the overall improvement of surgical care in the department. He was awarded a travelling fellowship to spend some time in the Department of abdominal surgery in K.U. Leuven,Belgium, Europe under the supervision of Prof A Doore, where he gained a lot of experience in minimal access colorectal surgery. In 2021, he was awarded a fellowship by the American College of Surgeons. He is now a Fellow of the American College of surgeons(FACS). He is affiliated to South African Society of Endoscopic Surgeons, European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons, the Association of Surgeons of South Africa and South African Society of Colorectal Surgeons.
Dr MN Latakgomo is a general laparoscopic surgeon practicing in Netcare Pholoso hospital and Medi-Clinic Polokwane Limpopo South Africa his practice focuses on minimally invasive surgeries. He has extensive experience in a variety of procedures like thyroidectomy, Breast surgery, laparoscopic hernia surgery, adrenal surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic colectomy, He has experiences in treating patients with breast and stomach cancer and other surgical pathologies.
Dr Matsobane Nelson Latakgomo is from Ga-Maleka, Seleteng in Ga Mphahlele, Limpopo. He is passionate about serving the people of Limpopo. He noticed the need for surgical care in the province while doing his community service and his practice aims provide world class surgical care to Polokwane and surrounding areas in the province.

Dr Martin Lahliwa Phakula

Dr Martin Phakula obtained his undergraduate medical degree in 2006 with the University of Limpopo formerly Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA). He did his internship and community service between 2007 and 2009 at the Polokwane/Mankweng hospital complex. He began his surgical training in 2010 at the same hospital complex. In 2012 he moved to Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital under the University of Limpopo currently Sefako Makgato Health Siciences University to compete his training and passed his fellowship exam with the College of Medicine of South Africa in 2014 and MMed in 2015. In the following 2 years he had extensive training in minimal access surgery and is the first person to have a formal assessment in minimal access surgery in the South Africa. He is a member of the Association of South African Surgeons, South African Society of Endoscopic Surgeons, and The European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons. His special interests are hernia surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopy, and minimal access surgery in general.
